URI’s College of the Environmental & Life Sciences (CELS) is seeking a Multicultural Coordinator for our diversity initiatives office in CELS. This position is critical in maintaining a positive environment for URI undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds that fosters community, empowerment and academic success.

MULTICULTURAL COORDINATOR POSITION
URI’s College of the Environmental & Life Sciences (CELS) is seeking a Multicultural Coordinator for our diversity initiatives office in CELS. This position is critical in maintaining a positive environment for URI undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds that fosters community, empowerment and academic success.
As the Multicultural Coordinator, expected duties will include:
  • Co-facilitate monthly leadership/office team meetings with student assistant staff and leadership team of our student organization CELS Seeds of Success
  • Assess student needs regarding program/event topics of interest and specific students and facilitate possible development of programs/events
  • Participate in recruitment and retention activities and assist with interview process of potential student assistants
  • Assist in the coordination of event logistics
·       Benchmark best practices for our student programming
·       Identify and assist with grants/scholarships to support programs
  • Report any concerns/challenges to the Assistant Director
  • Participate in the development of programs/events that support the retention of diverse students in CELS
  • Conduct exit interviews with seniors upon their graduation

  •  Create programming that enhances student success
  • Is comfortable with student engagement that can include holding people accountable and/or exploring issues of privilege
  • Has basic Microsoft Word and Excel computer skills
  • Is organized and can work independently
Minimum Requirements: University of Rhode Island Graduate Student preferably with experience in college student personnel, psychology, education or other relevant field. Preference to students that are a particular interest in working with students from diverse backgrounds.
