JOB DESCRIPTIONBUILDING MANAGER TRAINEE, MEMORIAL UNION
[CWS/IPR; Wage Level 3 ($10.40/hr)]
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Provide customer service for frontline building, parking, and special event operations. Work with various intradepartmental areas (i.e., Student Involvement, Scheduling, Custodial, Maintenance, Accounting) to assist customers and ensure smooth operation of Memorial Union (MU) services. Manage use of building space by enforcing policies, procedures and fire/safety regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  •   Provide initial contact & customer service to building users for operations-related concerns. Assist/find assistance as needed
  •   Manage use of building space (i.e., unlock and re-lock meeting rooms/programming areas, provide basic audio-visual set-ups,
    monitor use of booths and promotional space, address miscellaneous special concerns)
  •   Conduct regular interior and exterior inspection tours to ensure smooth operation of MU and to identify unreported concerns
  •   Enforce building policies in regard to all users of the MU facility and its grounds
  •   Monitor and address all safety & security concerns throughout building (i.e., respond to alarms, injuries, etc.)
  •   Provide documentation of and for all pertinent work-shift activity, including requests for facility maintenance and reports of
    incidents requiring follow-up
  •   Prepare facility for ongoing daily use (i.e., open/close building, print scheduling reports, post room schedules, etc.)
  •   Implement process for displaying large-scale posters and banners throughout Union
  •   Manage basic cash-box responsibilities for MU-related businesses and services when Accounting Office is closed
  •   Provide substitute coverage for the Information Desk as needed during off hours and special circumstances
  •   Conduct full lock-up of building when working final shift of day
  •   Set-Ups: assist custodians, as needed, with major room set-ups/breakdowns (i.e., chairs, tables, etc.)
  •   Events: oversee and regulate large-scale events in the building (i.e., conferences, concerts, dances, fairs, etc.)
  •   Parking: manage use of MU parking lots during regulated periods (i.e., Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm, special weekends) and initiate
    enforcement measures when necessary (i.e., 45-minute time limit; issuing violations, tows, etc.)
  •   Perform other duties as assigned
    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    All above duties must be mastered in full within trainee probationary period. Probationary period is in effect for one semester pending formal performance review. Position ends after probationary period expires; to continue further trainee must be promoted to a Building Manager. If deemed appropriate, probationary period may be extended by one additional semester (at maximum).
    REQUIREMENTS:
  •   Undergraduate students must be matriculated and currently registered for at least six (6) credits
  •   Must be able to work a minimum of 12-15 hours per week, which includes nights and weekends
  •   Must be able to commit to a mandatory two plus day training and orientation period before the start of scheduled work date
  •   Ability to climb stairs and lift 40 lbs, unaided
  •   Minimum GPA of 2.0
    QUALIFICATIONS:
  •   Sound managerial ability, including conflict resolution skills
  •   Excellent communication and customer service skills
  •   Ability to collaborate and work as a member of a team

Nordson BUILDS Scholarship Program


We are pleased to announce the Nordson BUILDS Scholarship Program is now open to applicants for the 2018-19 academic year. 

Last year over 140 students nationwide were awarded Nordson BUILDS Scholarships which range from $2,000 to $10,000.  Please help spread the word about this great opportunity to students at your institution.

·    These scholarships are targeted at students whose permanent residence, college, or university is located near a Nordson facility.  Your institution has been identified as being near one of these facilities therefore your students may be eligible to apply.
·    Eligible students seeking bachelor’s degrees must have at least 3.0 cumulative GPA.  Associate’s degree and certificate seeking students must have at least 2.7 cumulative GPA. 
·    Eligible majors include Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, and Software), Engineering Technology, Machining, Manufacturing Operations, Supply Chain Management, Business, Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Industrial Management, Information Technology, and engineering-related STEM majors leading to a career in industry.

URI MAPLAB - Research Assistant

Research Assistant in Contemporary ConsumerFinancial Behaviors
URI’s Mental Accounting and Pricing Lab (MAPLAB) is currently accepting applications for one or more paid undergraduate research assistant(s)(RAs) for Summer 2018. The ideal candidate is a motivated undergraduate, ora recent graduate with a keen interest in financial capability, behavioral economics, social psychology, consumer choice, or marketing research. Prior research experience is desirable but not a necessity.
This role supports the research team on a project studying financial capabilityand financial decision makingamong college students.  The primary needs are to 1) implement and test survey materials in Qualtrics, 2) develop and implement participant communications materials and processes, 3) analyze and summarize results, and 4) conduct literature review.  The RA may also work with Dr. Atlas and the research team on other related research projectssuch as social preferences, impatience, mental accounting, framing, pricing, etc. Some recent lab projects are featured here:  http://web.uri.edu/maplab/category/news/
Research experience through this lab provides a good experience for your resume.  It offers excellent preparation for graduate school, particularly if you are considering a Ph.D. in business, economics, psychology or a related field. This is also a chance for you to learn the skills as a business analyst. Previous students affiliated with the lab have subsequently:
-       Become employed after graduation with Brainjuicer, a top marketing research firm

4.    Collecting, cleaning, coding, and analyzing data, as well as writingup results

8.    Help coordinate research projects for the Lab’s researchers
9.    Interface with potential grant providers on applied research projects
The candidate must possess managerial and organizational skills, good communication skills, and the ability to manage several concurrent tasks. Must be proficient in Qualtrics and MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point), and ideally have exposure to at least one statistical programming language (STATA preferred). Must have experiences with designing, developing, and testing on Qualtrics. Must have the ability to learn and adapt quickly, establish priorities, work independently, meet deadlines, and proceed with objectives with minimal supervision.  Experience with online research databases (JSTOR, Web of Science, ABI/Inform) are preferred.

Intern Title:Operations & Events Intern

Desired Major:

Requirements: 
Senior or junior standing.  GPA of 3.3 or higher.  Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point. Experience in an office environment desirable, excellent customer service skills, drivers license and own transportation, desire to work in the hospitality industry, with an interest in event planning.  Candidate must be detail oriented, organized, timely, professional and eager to learn and jump in where needed.

We ask that any learning contracts, papers reflecting on experience, etc. submitted to school internship program also be submitted to internship supervisor to review with student. 

Hours:  
Part-time 24-32 hours per week; (preferably a minimum of 24 hours per week).  Mostly, the hours will be Monday-Friday during the afternoon, candidate must be flexible in case an occasional night or weekend is needed. 

Requested Start and End Dates:
We request that student is able to start by May 31stand end through September 3rd. Possible opportunity to work as part of the Newport Hospitality Meet & Greet team upon completion of the internship. 

Basic Function of Position: 
To effectively assist the Operations team in office management, program coordination, manage and complete all assigned projects. To work closely with the Vice President of Sales and assist with sales related projects. To train and work as a daytime Meet & Greet employee for groups when needed.  May also attend industry events in the early evening.


Compensation: 
This is a non-paid position.  Student will receive a $350.00 total stipend (at the end of the internship).  Upon completion of the internship, the Newport Hospitality team will assess the opportunity for the student to join the Newport Hospitality team in a full or part time paid position.

Responsibilities:
Take on and manage assigned projects from start to finish. Assist with any research and new projects that may come up.  Communicate with supervisor on the progress of each assignment.

Assist Program Managers in gathering and finalizing details for upcoming programs and handle any needed vendor follow up.  Assist in ensuring clients are receiving requested, needed and accurate information regarding the Newport area and their program.

Upkeep and maintenance of vendor files, open communication with Newport Hospitality team, answer incoming calls and provide information if possible or direct appropriately.  

Help maintain an orderly office environment, help with updating worksheets in Excel; complete assigned projects in a timely and accurate manner, some out of office duties and Meet & Greet service will be required.

Learn about the various positions in the company, from sales to operations, by working alongside full time staff. Work on-site Meet & Greet for daytime and evening activities and transportation and assist with Event Management for our evening functions.
