University of Rhode Island Athletics Department - Marketing Intern

Attention students! The University of Rhode Island Athletics Department is seeking marketing interns for the 2015-16 academic year. As an intern with URI Athletics, you will gain practical skills and knowledge in the sports and entertainment marketing industry. Under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director – Marketing and two Marketing Assistants, you will prepare the marketing plan for an assigned sport, lead grassroots marketing efforts on campus, design graphics, assist with game operations and more.

RESPONSIBILITIES
·         Assist with the preparation and execution of the marketing plan for an assigned sport
o   Identify and schedule grassroots marketing initiatives
o   Determine and implement promotions to increase fan attendance
o   Prepare gameday scripts
o   Schedule national anthem performers
o   Plan and implement in-game entertainment – including music, contests and promotions – that enhances the fan experience
·         Design graphics for use on social media, digital media, email blasts, flyers and other promotional items
·         Generate awareness of upcoming athletic events by distributing promotional items on-campus and by contacting local community organizations to share information about select games and promotions
·         Update and maintain customer database to expand email marketing efforts
·         Execute gameday operations by managing marketing displays and coordinating in-game contests and presentations
·         Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
·         Current college student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Management, Public Relations or similar field
·         Interest in pursuing a career in sports marketing preferred
·         Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop or other graphic design applications preferred
·         Ability to work 4-6 office hours per week and 1-2 athletic events per week
·         Strong work ethic and attention to detail; flexibility to adapt to changing plans
·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills, energetic personality
