ABOUT US:
WaterFire Providence is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit arts organization whose mission is to inspire Providence and its visitors by revitalizing the urban experience, fostering community engagement and creatively transforming the city by presenting WaterFire for all to enjoy. WaterFire is centered around a core installation of over 85 bonfires, bringing over 1 million people a year to Providence and Rhode Island each year and making WaterFire not only an international tourist destination but a sterling example of art’s ability to support local and regional economies.
GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Development Assistant works very closely with the Director of Resource Development providing direct fund-raising, sponsor acquisition and development support to sustain and enhance the mission of WaterFire Providence. Reporting to the Director of Resource Development, you will support a broad spectrum of marketing, communications, events, fundraising, and administration activities with a focus on sponsorships and memberships.
KNOW-HOW:
Bachelor’s degree required – marketing and sales or business development preferred. Experience with MS Office and Google Apps required; experience with non-profit database software (eTapestry or similar) and project management (Basecamp) and social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) highly desirable but not necessary. Must be outgoing and sociable, have good sense of humor, as well as interpersonal, public relations and communications skills—including the ability to make oral presentations. Excellent writing and grammatical skills needed. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail oriented, flexible and adaptable. This is an entry level position with room for growth.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:
- Working very closely with the Director of Resource Development, serves as member of the Development team and provide back up for general Development duties as required.
- Develops and implements marketing, sales and retention plans to promote fundraising initiatives, sponsorship acquisition and tracking.
- Manages fulfillment of sponsor benefits.
- Participates in planning and execution of special fundraiser events.
- Assists with coordination of WaterFire special events, with a special focus on the Brazier Society member tent.
- Develops, produces and distributes program information necessary to promote WaterFire’s Brazier Society to increase membership.
- Along with the Director of Resource Development works with assigned interns, and volunteers.
- Provides and maintains sales and sponsor retention reports using database software.
- Conducts research on prospects, including individuals, corporations and foundations identified as potential sources of private funds. In addition, conducts ongoing research in business, philanthropy and related fields to identify potential donors and sponsors.
- Supports grant writing efforts of Development Department and entire organization with Managing Director
- Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.
POSITION DETAILS:
This is an At-will salaried position which provides benefits and vacation time after a preliminary trial period. Some weekend and evening work is required. Salary ranges between upper $20k-lower $30k dependent on experience.
