URI Center for Nonviolence & Peace Studies - Marketing, PR, and Social Media Internship

Internship Description: 

Do you think peace is a big idea? We do! If you think so too, then join our Center in the role of marketing, public relations, social media intern. We are a small team with a big mission -- preventing violence and promoting peace. Are you interested in working on the forefront of social transformation and global peace building? Then step into a key position to help make a difference at URI and around the world. You will work conveniently in a collaborative office environment located in the heart of the URI campus. Interface with the campus community, the State of Rhode Island, and national and international partners. Our signature event is the International Nonviolence Summer Institute held in June, so it is an option to extend the internship through May and June. This internship is an opportunity to gain on-the-ground marketing and social media experience. Learn how to function effectively in a communication liaison role. 



Specific Tasks:

  • designing and implementing creative public information strategies
  • posting on blogs, Twitter, Facebook, and WordPress
  • planning online outreach and promoting Center events
  • developing press releases
  • using various social media.


Qualifications: 

  • Communications, Public Relations, Media, or Journalism Majors
  • A creative, energetic, dynamic person who takes initiative and works independently
  • Ready to assume a leadership role
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Passion for learning and working cooperative with a diverse group of individuals
  • Proficiency in utilizing various types of social media
  • Understanding of and interest in marketing and fundraising
  • Commitment to values of peace and nonviolence
  • Fun-loving spirit and a sense of humor


Hours per week:

10 – 20 hours, flexible Wage/Salary: Work/Study available
