Position: Tax Manager
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Ocean State Job Lot is seeking a CPA/MST to manage, evaluate, develop and
implement tax policies for the company’s various entities, consisting mostly of
S Corps and LLC’s. This is a great growth

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
· Responsible
for the timely preparation and filing of the company’s income tax returns.
· Ensure
that tax burden is minimized by understanding and applying federal, state and
local tax code to achieve maximum benefit permitted under the law.
· Oversee
the preparation of monthly sales and use tax returns for over 120 stores and
several affiliated entities in 8 jurisdictions.
o Responsible
for accurately determining the proper application of state and local sales tax
on merchandise sold in all Ocean State Job Lot locations
· Primary
role in managing federal and state income and sales tax audits.
o Research
and communicate purpose for tax notices.
Offer resolution and respond where needed.
· Review
tangible personal property tax returns.
Approve reasonableness of all real estate tax assessments on owned
property.
· Oversee
the timely and accurate preparation and filing of Forms 1099-MISC, 1099-INT.
· Review
financial records, document and maintain complete and accurate supporting
information for all tax transactions and activity.
o Assist
with review of fixed assets to determine proper capitalization, GAAP and tax
depreciation, as well as reconciliation to the general ledger
o Ensure
confidentiality and security of completed tax returns and related
documentation.
· Work
with management and accounting staff to develop and implement policy and
procedures that assist with discovery of potential tax deductions and/or
credits.
· Research
tax and compliance issues, and changes in law; consult with internal team and
outside professionals as needed; discuss interpretation and findings with
management.
· Update
job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading
professional publications; maintaining personal networks and participating in
professional organizations.
· Assess
and recommend additional products and services, as needed.
· Manage,
develop and mentor staff to support above duties. Participate in education and training where
needed.
· Participate
in other related tasks as requested.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
·
Experienced in S Corp and LLC Federal and
Multi-state tax return preparation along with exposure to sales, use &
property tax.
·
CPA and/or
MS in Tax
·
Research experience with commonly controlled
groups, partnership and multi-state issues.
·
Strong Computer skills – advanced knowledge
of spreadsheet applications and tax preparation software and related process
efficiency.
·
Excellent Communication and interpersonal
skills with ability to team with staff, peers, management and outside parties
to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results.
·
Ability to
operate independently with minimal daily direction to accomplish objectives.
